The New Canaan Field Club offers a family oriented, outdoor pool experience. Led by longtime Aquatics Director Joe Somma, the Club provides a wide range of aquatic activities from kids’ first swim lessons through competitive team participation. Joe grew up diving at the Newfield Club in Stamford and continued his dive career at Clemson University. He returned to Connecticut and started the Whirlwind Diving Club at the New Canaan YMCA. He has coached over 100 divers from the area to D1 colleges and runs one of the most successful programs in the state.
From Memorial Day through Labor Day, members enjoy the use of a six lane, 25 meter swimming pool with a large shallow area, two one meter diving boards, a children’s wading pool and playground. The Field Club Bandits (ages 8-17) compete against other clubs in Fairfield County in diving, swimming and water polo through the Fairfield County Swim League.
The Club’s diving program is one of the most competitive in the league each year. No prior experience is required to compete with the Bandits. The Field Club’s Aquatics program also includes group and private lessons, clinics and non-competitive team options for members of all ages. Swim lessons are provided through camp as well as privately.
The Club’s pre-team experience gives 5-8 year olds a glimpse of what is available as they get older. There is also a morning Masters swim program for adult members looking for a little structure to their swim workouts.
